Sunday

Guga Santos

Continue the celebrations on Sunday 17th September 2023 join Global Grooves for a percussion and voice masterclass with Guga Santos.

Take the opportunity to further your knowledge of music and culture from Pernambuco (Brazil), we will be joined again by musician and artist Guga Santos the day after our main birthday celebrations.

Previous experience of percussion playing or singing is highly recommended for this masterclass.

Traditional Rhythms of the Candomblé terreiros and Jurema in Pernambuco in partnership with Juba do Leão.

We are delighted to welcome Guga Santos from Brazil to join us for this very special masterclass in the ritual music of northeastern Brazil. This workshop is most suitable for music enthusiasts who already have some experience of percussion or voice-based practice.

This workshop aims to provide the rhythmic knowledge of the drums and the historical and geographical context of the African Nations that were enslaved and brought to Pernambuco and its development until the present day through the northeastern exodus.
