Aidan Jolly

musician, songwriter/composer

I am a musician, songwriter/composer and performance maker, taking inspiration from world wide cultural movements, and the history, identity and undocumented stories of particular communities and environments. I am involved in touring, performing, events, plays, and multimedia production. I have released two well reviewed CDs of original songs, ‘System Fault’ and ‘State of Hysteria’, and am currently working on the next.

Current projects include: ‘Stone Flowers’, a music project with survivors of torture, in partnership with Music Action International and Freedom from Torture North West. The project enables theparticipants to create songs and poetry based on their experiences. We have released two CDs and have performed at venues ranging from the Imperial War Museum North to the Academy and O2 Forum Kentish Town.

I am a founder member of ‘RISE’, a diverse and multi-lingual band which explores the idea of the‘epic’ narrative song in a range of idioms including Russian, Turkish, Greek, German, Italian, English and American traditions, and recently toured the North of the UK.

I recently was awarded a development grant from Help Musicians UK’s Transmission Fund, to receive mentoring in composition from Eve Harrison.

I am a core member of Virtual Migrants, a Manchester based Digital Arts Association that explores issues of race, migration and globalisation. In 2015 we toured ‘Continent Chop Chop’, a national touring production and participatory workshop programme that looked at austerity, climate justice and migration.
