Meet the Vale Artists Stakeholder Group.

The Vale would like to invite you to become a member of the artist stakeholder group and feed into the development of a new creative resource for Mossley.

Our Vision is to create a world class centre for Carnival arts on the edge of the Pennine Hills, providing exceptionally high quality facilities for artists, audiences, young people, and communities from Tameside and beyond. Visitors to this stunning complex will mix with the most dynamic artists and ideas from around the globe, to learn, participate, dream, create, grow, and share.

With 20 years experience in choreography, dance performance, training and teaching worldwide I live and breath the sheer joy and uplifting power of dance as an art form.

Aidan Jolly

musician, songwriter/composer

I am a musician, songwriter/composer and performance maker, taking inspiration from world wide cultural movements, and the history, identity and undocumented stories of particular communities and environments. I am involved in touring, performing, events, plays, and multimedia production. I have released two well reviewed CDs of original songs, ‘System Fault’ and ‘State of Hysteria’, and am currently working on the next.

Born in Yorkshire, I now spend most of my time in Lancashire and the North West, teaching and supporting the work of youth projects in Outdoor Education and Music.

Dan Jones

Dan is Mossley-based musician and artist. He works behind the scenes and as a performer/artist with Carnival arts organisations Global Grooves and Cabasa Carnival Arts. He also a development manager for Manchester-based charity Edge Theatre, specialising in producing professional and participatory theatre, working with vulnerable adults and young people.

Ellesse Young studies Textiles in Practice at Huddersfield University where she is developing a variety of different skills which benefit her passion for textiles art. Having been involved in various projects for Global Grooves and Cabasa Carnival Arts she has learnt a range of artistic skills and found a love for working within a community.

Emily has been working with Global Grooves since 2009 as a lead artist and Carnival designer and has worked on all of our large scale Carnival projects since then. When she is not busy making in the studio Emily works with Global Grooves as a project manager and coordinates many of The Vale events.

Eraldo joined Global Groove and The Vale team following a series of collaborative workshops delivered by Meninos do Morumbi. Born in Brazil, Eraldo brings a cheery, grounded energy to our often hectic and exciting schedule of events!

I have been working in the Arts for over 30 years, part time and voluntary as a Director of Mossley Community Arts Ltd for 25years, a group of regional significance according to the Arts Council; and some of it, full time, as Gordon Banks. Freelance Visual Artist and Street Theatre Performer/Producer.

Holly Prest is an outstanding percussionist, director and educator. With over 20 years of experience behind her, Holly’s dedication to the music, rhythms and cultures from around the world has led her to translate all of this knowledge into her passion for performing and teaching.

Jane has managed a number of unique Global Grooves’ and Vale projects with a focus on widening access and participation to carnival arts and its related skills such as creative computing.

I background in electronics engineering which has been my main profession, also a musician with guitar my main instrument. I have been involved in community and carnival arts performances and projects as a performer for many years.

Kate Rothery

Kate has been working with Global Grooves and The Vale since 2016 starting with us as a trainee producer and project manager and now manages many of our creative projects and events. She graduated from Manchester School of Art in 2015 with a BA in Textiles and since then, Kate has found a love for Carnival and Community arts.

Lauren specialises in costumes and puppets with a focus on community engagement. She grew up attending festivals such as Streets Ahead where she developed a love for outdoor arts and street theatre.

Leon Patel

Leon Patel is at the helm of Global Grooves and The Vale, having committed over a decade to sharing his passion and knowledge of percussion and song from around the world – Brazilian, South Asian, West African, Cuban, and Western musical styles to name a few.

Lizzie is a local visual artist, who's worked with Global Grooves for the last year. Lizzie was a lead visual artist in the 'Creating Carnival Illuminated' project last year for Mossley Light festival and has been helping out and growing as an artist ever since.

Community Arts and Events Facilitator

I help co-ordinate 'Re:Create - Mossley' adult arts and crafts group at the Vale every Wednesday between 1-3pm (during school term time) We provide a range of creative and social activities for our attendees as well as participate in local community projects. We currently are running a series of workshop masterclasses teaching skills like ceramics or outdoor metal work and much more planned for 2018-19.

Having a background in three dimensional design specialising in ceramics Mel creates and exhibits her own sculptural work at her studio and leads many art based workshops with local community groups and organisations.

Former Teacher of Art, Craft and Design. Cert Ed, Dip AD Art and Design Education. Work with Mossley Community Arts as a Board member, Volunteer, Administrator and Artist. Currently Self employed Artist, Maker and Sculptor. Currently Street Theatre Artist with Greenbanks. Tutor and Mentor for Future Leaders programme.

Dance Specilist and Arts Manager

Olivia Peers is a dance artist and creative facilitator based in Mossley. She is the founder of Born and Bred Dance Theatre, a dance company that aims to celebrate the rich and diverse history, heritage and landscape of our local area. (www.bornandbreddance.co.uk)
