The Vale regulars, The Incredible Plastic Street Band have had an exciting year with funding successes, an album and plenty of gigin’ in between! Check out what the busiest band in Mossley has been up to and what’s on the horizon for 2018..
Recently, the IPSB have been accepted onto Create a Buzz, a national competition that promotes the link between emerging and established brass bands. Working with Brass Bands England and pBone (who provide their fantastic plastic instruments), the competition will see the IPSB premiering a new piece written specially for the competition by brass band composer Jonathan Bates. If successful in reaching the next round, they’ll also make a new video of their exploits and receive 20 new pBuzzes (mini trombones) to practice with!
Funding success has also come from ROCA (Respecting Our Communities Awards) at First Choice Housing in Oldham. The band have expanded to work with more families in Holts & Lees, Oldham and through this funding they are now able continue to support these families with new uniforms and a minibus to get them to the gigs.
The first album was recorded last summer during a summer school project here at The Vale. The kids recorded their favourite tunes and designed their album artwork; the original can be found here at The Vale. Funding from ROCA will also make way for another summer school later in the year!
The People’s Health Trust will also be supporting the band throughout 2018 to provide weekly activities with children and parents from Top Mossley and Carrbrook. New and existing members will be invited to have their say and help shape future activities.

- 12th May – HurstFest 2018 at Ashton United Football Club
- 20th May – Children’s Concert featuring the BBC 10 Pieces with the Abney Orchestra
- 25th May – Whit Friday: The Mossley Whit Walks
The IPSB rehearse every Thursday at The Vale and every Wednesday in Oldham (during term time). New members are always welcome.
