Our house musicians will be playing a mixture of Latin and Brazilian vibes with an informal ‘Pagode’ style set with a unique Mossley flavour.
What is Pagode?
Pagode is a type of samba originating in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Distinguished by rhythmic improvisation, its acoustic sound is created using a variety of percussion instruments, song and string instruments such as Cavaquinho and guitar.
Special Guest: Helen Curtis
Helen Curtis is a Yorkshire based pianist, singer and percussionist who plays a variety of sometimes niche genres. Trained as a classical pianist, she then extended her musical style to include Swiss yodelling, Cuban piano, Brazilian percussion and Georgian singing.
Nowadays she writes her own music in sibling duo Calluna Sun, sings in Swiss yodel duo Sätteli and plays piano and sings Coro in the energetic Cuban band Charanga Del Norte. She rarely plays solo but when she does she is thrilled to offer up some of her inspirations with music as diverse as from Bela Bartok to Joni Mitchell and some originals put in to the mix.
