The ‘Five Notes, Ten Cities’ Tour with Seby Ntege & Band
Seby Ntege is a singer songwriter from the Busoga region of eastern Uganda, renowned for producing some of the best multi-instrumentalists in the country. Seby himself is a master of several folk instruments from his country including akogo thumb piano, endongo lyre, adungu harp, percussion and endingidi (a one stringed fiddle).
Seby Ntege & Band launched their debut album at Mwalimu Express (Rich Mix) on 15th April and the band is preparing for tours in both the UK and Uganda (see www.sebyntege.co.uk for more info).
One of the tracks from the debut album ‘Five Notes’ was selected by BBC Radio 3 as ‘BBC Introducing song of the week’ and the band have recently performed live on Resonance FM and BBC London. The band’s danceable sound is a musical marriage between Uganda, the UK and West Africa – ‘Ugandan afro/soul.’
Global Grooves will be hosting a masterclass day led by Seby Ntege & Band, to put together an evening showcase to help create this very special collaboration of music, dance and culture. The evening will feature a special performance from Global Grooves’ carnival community as part of their ‘Journey of the Orixas’ programme showcasing the rich music and dance culture of Brazil and beyond. With live percussion and dance, incredible costumes and digital visuals this will be an extra special treat before the main act of the evening. To learn more about the masterclass and enroll as one of the 20 musicians visit www.globalgrooves.org
We are delighted to be able to invite Seby Ntege & Band to The Vale and look forward to what magic and surprises are in store.
This project has been funded by Arts Council England‘s ‘Grants for The Arts’ programme. Limited bursary places are available. Please contact us for more information.
