Matt Nickson
Matt; a saxophonist/flutist and founder of Matt and Phred’s Jazz Club has been one of the main driving forces in jazz and live music over the last 25 years in the North West England.
Matt is noted for his full sound on tenor and a flowing melodic playing style. He also plays flute and now plays in the flamenco band “Calaita flamenco son” Whose album of the same name is out now on World Music Network’s Riverboat Records Label.. Matt is also currently working with his trio CRaB which includes Romanian virtuoso double bassist Michael Cretu and Chris Cruiks on percussion.
Mads Heide,
Fantastic pianist / keyboard player in a variety of musical projects in Copenhagen. Mads was prolific as a teenager in Copenhagen and when he moved to Manchester in his late teens was spotted by Matt who instantly offered him a permanent residency in the then new club Matt and Phred’s jazz Club. Thrown into the deep end Mads soon established himself as the one of the leading lights in the Manchester Jazz scene. He was resident at the club for two years before returning to Copenhagen to study at the Music Institute of the University of Copenhagen. Mads is an exciting and passionate improviser and dramatic performer continuously seeking new challenges in his projects, collaborations with other musicians and through his own compositions. In Copenhagen Mads is in demand playing recently with Monique, Niels HP and Bobo Moreno and many more together with as resident pianist with the famous Copenhagen Big Band.
