8 Week Batik

A Free Course in Batik & Silk Painting

Come and have a wax this winter at The Vale with Cabasa Carnival Arts.

Cabasa have been funded by the European Social Fund to put on a series of courses in textiles for women living in Tameside who are currently unemployed*

WHAT IS BATIK?

Batik is the process of applying hot wax to fabric (we mainly use silk and cotton) which acts as a resist. We then hand paint the fabric with dyes and use this fabric in stunning costumes, amazing giant structures, beautiful flags and more! Cabasa create all their own fabric for costumes to be used for Carnival and other outdoor events.

ABOUT THE COURSE

If you’re interested in textiles, carnival, costume, getting hands on or just learning a new skill, this is the course for you! You’ll learn the history of this amazing art form then get practical from designing, waxing and dyeing silk with our lovely in-house artists. At the end of the course you’ll come away with a beautiful silk scarf and have the opportunity to transfer your new skills onto our large-scale projects…or why not start your own project?

Please get in touch with Cabasa Carnival Arts directly to find out more and register your interest.  You can do this by emailing Kate at [email protected] or clicking the link below to visit their website.
